WorkDesk Features

Overview

The WorkDesk screen is divided into two main areas. The desktop takes up most of the screen and contains background wallpaper and optional shortcuts. The bottom of the screen contains a taskbar, which lets you launch apps and provides general device status. The features of each area are described in the following sections.

Desktop Shortcuts

To launch an app from a desktop shortcut, left click on its icon. In addition to launching apps, shortcuts can also reference a web page. When a shortcut of this type is launched, it will load the web page using the default browser. Information on configuring shortcuts can be found in Shortcut Settings.

Apps Button

The Apps button () is located at the lower left of the taskbar and is used to launch apps. When clicked, it displays the App menu, which lists shortcuts and apps which you can launch. Scroll the list to locate the app/shortcut you wish to launch, then click its icon to launch it. At the bottom of the menu is a button labeled WorkDesk Settings which will take you to the configuration window.

note

If the device is running in Kiosk (Lock Task) Mode, such as when running Datalogic Launcher, the apps displayed will be filtered to show only those apps which are allowed to be launched.

App Tray

The App Tray takes up the center area of the taskbar. It displays icons for all applications running on either display. It is split into two parts, identified by an icon as follows:

IndicatorDescription

Lists apps running on the device display

Apps can be moved between the external and device displays by performing a long press (press and hold) with the left mouse button on the app's icon, then dragging it to the opposite half of the app tray and releasing mouse button. Applications which are running on the external display when the device is removed from the dock will be restored to the external display automatically when the device is reinserted in the dock.

note

The display and behavior of the App Tray are configurable. See App Tray in Taskbar Settings for more details.

The entire contents of the screen may be captured and saved to an image file in one of two methods:
