Datalogic Arrow FOTA

Overview

Datalogic Arrow FOTA is a solution that enables Datalogic mobile computers to automatically update firmware and Espresso packages on the device. Its purpose is to simplify the process of keeping devices updated with the latest security updates and features.

Architecture

The architecture of Arrow FOTA involves three main components:

FOTA Architecture

FOTA Service

This runs on the mobile computer and manages all updates on the device. It is responsible for scheduling updates and determining which updates to apply. It is configurable from the device Settings app or from OEMConfig (for EMMs or Scan2Deploy Studio). Update files can be downloaded from either a proxy server or cloud storage. Additional details on how to use the service are here.

FOTA Proxy server

This optional component runs on an separate server setup by each installation. Its purpose is to cache update files on a local server so that devices can receive updates from this server instead of accessing the cloud directly. The FOTA Proxy establishes a connection with the FOTA Cloud storage to mirror its contents (on demand) and provide updates to the FOTA Service. This structure allows devices to be isolated on an internal network, while the FOTA Proxy can still access update files from FOTA Cloud storage. Details on how to setup a FOTA Proxy server are here.

FOTA Cloud storage

This is the external storage of all update files (firmware and Espresso). It is updated regularly with new content as firmware and Espresso packages are published.

Licensing

Arrow FOTA is licensed feature. There are different licenses which grant access to each of the FOTA components:
